Hi Folks,
My fiancee is a MS student and currently has student loan in India being charged at 13.5%. I am wondering if there is any loan that i can get here with a lower interest rate to repay off the one in india.
I would appreciate any pointers or suggestions here.
If she has a very good credit score, try for 0% balance transfer. But there is 3% transfer fee involved. You normally get 6-12 months time. But in this credit crunch no one is giving. But still there are some cards/banks are giving. It also based on how much she owes... I recently got offer for 1.99% for 8 months.

Ok maybe there are another forum but I can find you. My CPAS says we are going to receive the stimulus (it is not a rebate) but the IRS website says that if we are non-resident alen we won't. According with IRS only when you get GC you will be concider resident?????? It is true?????
A: You wont get a stimulus payment in 2008, if any of the following apply to you:
You dont file a 2007 tax return.
Your net income tax liability is zero and your qualifying income is less than $3,000. To determine your qualifying income, add together your wages, net self-employment income, nontaxable combat pay, Social Security benefits, certain Railroad Retirement benefits and certain veterans payments.
You can be claimed as a dependent on someone elses return. For example, this would include a child or student who can be claimed on a parents return.
You do not have a valid Social Security Number.
You are a nonresident alien.
You file Form 1040NR or Form 1040NR-EZ, Form 1040PR or Form 1040SS for 2007.

Another front to think about :
Recently I have heard that when the company publishes advertisement for the labor when filling for fresh PERM, every time there is a response coming back because of the higher rate of unemployment in the market. The issue is, if any response comes back then the company cannot proceed with the labor and new GC process gets hung.
So, to be on safer side just check on ur skill set before resigning the current job as it should not be readily available in the market.

Nice...Calculations work if its a public company with a responsibility to make profits and please shareholders. We are talking about an entity we really know nothing about, all calculations go out of the window in this case
-- I filed my 485 in dec 2004 :p i have spent many hours dreaming up rational calculations, but i feel i would have been better off watching the traffic from my office window.:(
Here is the calculation I came up with USCIS processing of our I-485 applications.
USCIS should allocate 140,000 applications in a fiscal year. So, in a month they need to process, at least, 140,000/ 12 = 11,667 applications.
Assuming that they have, at least, 20 working days in a month, they need to process 11,667/ 20 = 584 applications.
So, now the question is, how many employees does USCIS have and are dedicated to the I-485 processing? We don’t know the exact number. Considering that USCIS is getting lot of revenue, they should have, at least, 50 employees doing this work.
So, 584/50 = 12(Approx) applications they need to process in a day, per person.
So, do you think it is viable? Of course, it is…
What they need to process the I-485 application? They are not doing any FBI names check, or background check (Assuming that everything is done by other organization). So, how long does it take to review the I-485 application? Well, when I filled the application, it took me about 1 hour. So, to review it, let’s us say, it takes about 1/2 the time fill the application; that’s about half an hour. Considering the calculation that we made, it takes an about 6 hours to process 12 candidates. With this assumption, they still have 2 hours left to do miscellaneous tasks. Now the question is what the heck they are doing all the time? Why did they process only 80,000 applications in about 8 months? Are they lazy? Don’t they have enough employees (This shouldn’t be; an average Indian consultant company will have at least 20 employees!!). This is really a mystery. Anyways, if the USCIS really and whole heartedly wants to process the applications, they can; but they really don’t care about immigrants or their plights.

You should have it by end of the week or before middle of next week.
About 5 to 7 days- Usually this is what I noticed
LUD (Usually hard) - that says "we have sent letter......" - on that day the mail is prepared and sent to mail room.
It could be mailed out on that day or the next day.
domestic mail takes 3 days + 1 day buffer
Post office may deliver it next day +1
so 5 days min or 7 days max

We have a very similar case as yours...No FP and RFE on AP....
our 485 is NSC>CSC>NSC ...hence it is slow...my lawyer asked to wait for another month (60 from notice days)
RFE on AP is processed at NSC>CSC...
which means my 485 is back in NSC and AP is still at CSC....no connection between two applications.

Hello All,
I came across this site while researching for *urgent* solutions or options that my friend needs to pursue or has.
These are my friend's details --
EB3 -- India.
I140 approved in July 2007.
485 filed in July 2007.
MS in Engg from USA.
MBA in Finance from top ten school in USA.
Has applied for couple of patents in tech field.
Author of few papers in tech field.
My friend worked for his green card petitioning employer for 7 years in a technical position on H1 visa. He had to leave this job under some unfavorable circumstances around a month back. He has now taken a job as Marketing Manager for a big firm and is using his EAD. Two weeks back he has received an RFE on his 485 application. (Very curious and bad timing indeed too). This RFE needs a Employment Verification Letter. The current position that my friend works as does not match the position description on his labor petition. The RFE reply needs to be sent in within next 2 weeks.
What are his options to reply to the RFE? One of the lawyers that was consulted said that since Green Card is for a future position, he needs to get a legit letter from a future employer that the employer is willing to hire my friend after he gets his green card.
Also suggested were EB2-NIW and self-employment options.
What would you suggest -- best course of action? Would you know anybody who has gone through a similar situation. Any fallback options that my friend needs to evaluate?
I really appreciate all your replies. Pl treat this as very urgent.
Thanks.

It was mentioned last month in the AINP website that some changes would be there in the NOC list after April 15. Everybody whoever followed this thread saw the message earlier. On April 15 they removed the message from AINP website and apparantly there was no change in NOC list till now. OP gave us correct information when he/she created this thread. See my post in April 15 in this thread and I mentioned that nothing was changed in NOC list. Again going back to my original question did you follow this thread from start? I objected to this comment "I donno why people place messages with Half Knowledge". Apparantly you had the half knowlodge about this whole issue.
hey dude there's nothing in the url u posted once go to the website and click the the pressure list url.that is the actual Noc codes that are active.Today morning when i spoke to the immigraton officer in alberta he was the one who told me ok.
I think both of you are correct. :)
Initially AINP website had a message that starting April15th there will be change in NOC codes..but they removed it last week..so I guess, they are not going to change NOC list for now.

I have found that SBI is the most cost effective one. There is some inconvienience as you have to register with them, but every transfer after that can be accomplished with a fax to their offices.

I agree - better be safe than sorry. My take - you are just unlucky, USCIS randomly picks folks who have been in the country for a while to see if they have ever been out of status. Likely, they are doing that with you.
Have you kept your I-20? Can you call your old Univ. to get payroll stubs (I think you can do that)?

gchopes,
We are in the same situation, I was researching this online in different sites and yes, you have to return before your old AP expires or leave only after your current pending AP is approved. If your current AP expires while you are away you are considered to abondon your adjustment of status. Now i have read some people have done this without any problem, because may be the problem doesn't arise until your I-485 comes up for approval. So I have decided not to take any chances with this rule.
The following message from murhy forum over 3 years ago is still true. Correct? I cannot mail the renewed parole to my wife if she stays beyond the expiry of current parole.
--
It is not permissable for an individual to leave the United States during the validity of one Advance Parole document and return upon the validity of a second Advance Parole document.
In such circumstances and after such travel, the USCIS may deem that the adjustment of status application has been abandoned.

Folks,
I got greened today, surprisingly. Could anyone let me know what are the good numbers to reach a human in USCIS, hopefully with less wait time. I wanted to check with them what address they have on file. I filed an address change in JUne but I am not sure if they have it right in their systems. Also, is there a way to get this information without calling them.
Thanks a lot ..
