Good to see this bill and it will be great if it is passed even with less than 60% allocation from the lottery program. I don’t think they would completely eliminate lottery program and the lottery program might have their own advocacies. As mentioned in this thread they might have the lottery program for many reasons. I am hoping for the bill to pass as it is :-)
Regarding satyasrd’s question I think section 2 . line #15 thru #19 in the bill (I copied the text below) helps who obtain the advanced degree in USA before 01/05/2011 (preceding the date of the petition) and obtain the degree within 5 years you should be good to go. Others please correct me if I am wrong.

They wanted to show their economic power. They hoped that would translate into political power. But now some critics are saying it's actually had the opposite effect, creating a backlash. And in at least one city so far the issue has already cost a Mayor his job. Here's CNN's Candy Crowley.

CANDY CROWLEY, SENIOR POLITICAL CORRESPONDENT: This is where day laborers, mostly immigrants, legal and not, hang out looking for work in Herndon, Virginia. It may not look like an election issue, but last night, voters threw out their mayor and two city council members who pushed for the day labor center. This is the new mayor.
STEVE DEBENEDITTIS, HERNDON VIRGINIA MAYOR-ELECT: Welcome immigrants, but they have concerns, valid concerns, about illegal immigration.
CROWLEY: Fewer than 3,000 people voted in Herndon. Just about 24 hours after the nation watched hundreds of thousands of immigrants, legal and not, demonstrate across the country.

JOHN ROBERTS, SR. NATIONAL CORRESPONDENT: That would depend on who you talk to. Some republicans who want to put a good spin on this say that it's possible that they can get it done. Other people including the White House are much more pessimistic about it saying they don't expect anything to happen until after the November election.
COOPER: Candy, I mean could these demonstrations really have backfired and derailed a compromised deal, even among those who support some sort of reform?
CROWLEY: Absolutely. I mean, the problem really is, first of all, the politics are that the democrats would rather have the issue at this point because it's an election year than a bill. The republicans would like a bill because it will be an accomplishment, but they have problems with their conservative core. And the people we talked to said listen, the demonstrations backfired. It left -- people looked and said well they're not working, and they're out demonstrating. You know, fair or not, the conservative core sort of toughened up. Obviously there were a lot of American flags where organizers really tried to get American flags out there. But that certainly angers a lot of people. Remember the key question here is, if they can get a bill through the senate, can they then get the house to embrace a more liberal immigration policy? The house members, most are from safe conservative districts. And back home in their districts they didn't feel all that much pressure to begin with. And what they are saying now is that this sends an anti-American signal.
If these people want legal status in the United States, they should be holding American flags, they should be demonstrating for rights in the United States not celebrating Mexico or El Salvador. So to that degree, while the masses in the streets certainly showed the emerging political power and potential political power of the Latino vote, that symbol has helped the opponents of this measure especially in the house. It has simply stiffened the resolve of conservatives who say no to any new broad immigration reform.

I also have soft LUD on 09/26 and 09/29...But i dont know what to read into it.
I did have a LUD on 09/05 and 09/08 and then RFE was issued. Responded to the RFE on 09/22 . LUD on 09/22, 09/23 ,09/29 and 09/30.

My fiancee is a MS student and currently has student loan in India being charged at 13.5%. I am wondering if there is any loan that i can get here with a lower interest rate to repay off the one in india.
I would appreciate any pointers or suggestions here.

watch out for the offes inthe mail for LIFE TIME balance transfers. generally you could call them and negotiate the APR they offer, based on my experience.
BUt keep in mind, b4 U jump in to all this banks here CAN rescind the offer anytime for any reason (when you are late even one month, etc) although there was a law that has passed recently by Obamas administration that they gave more protection to consumers.
lastly crunch some numbers, i know 13 % is high but at the same time its in Rupees Vs Dollars, so do some number crunching of intersest payment in dollards Vs rupees...good luck

Please DO NOT make the mistake of taking on the CHC at this point, it is a fight that is IMPOSSIBLE for us to win and POINTLESS to even fight. If we win against the CHC (big IF), we win NOTHING, if we lose, we now have bigger problems.

This is talking about I-140 and not I-485.....
My I-140 filed with TSC is still pending since August 2007. I hope I get a decision ( hopefully positive) by Sep 2009!
Could you elaborate why you say this is about I140? I couldn't derive that from the posting. Anyhow this whole this is utter nonsense from the immigration department. I don't think there will be any action, period.
The whole thing is written as if June 2007 happened by mistake, I don't buy that.

When the officer picks up a new case file, within minutes he know if there's Birth cert, substitute labor etc (remember he may have handled hundreds of cases). If the officer FEELS the case is complicated or needs an RFE, he may just put it on the backburner and pick up the next one on the shelf. That's why i'm trying to get my BC or NABC, even if i have 5 other docs with DOB.

Why and how do members get those green and red squares when they post messages? I do know red squares are bad since a mouseover shows the text that the member has had some bad behavior. However, I have seen various texts for green squares. Mine says "I'm on a distinguised road"...I had no idea I was on one, but I sure do hope it ends with a Green Card in hand! :)
Anyway, does anyone know all the different variations of text for green and red squares and how do they change for different members?

You could argue that you don't need to have a job now, just that you need to be in a "same or similar"position when the 485 is approved. if your priority date is very backlogged, you have lots of time to find a job.
Would this kind of RFE response be acceptable ? If the RFE asks for employment letter and you send a response that you dont have a job and also that you are not required to have one until your Priority date becomes current, I think your AOS can be denied. Based on the memo you can argue that but I am not sure if anyone has actually done this and their AOS has continued to be processed.

"The AC21" is just a letter stating that you have switched employers and have a new job in the same occupation, similar wage, etc. under the AC21 law, in no specific format.
My AC21 letter which was drafted by the attorney just states the above and is addressed to the USCIS on my behalf. I am the only person that has signed it, the only attorney reference on there is for sending any correspondence.
