Hi,
How do I file my taxes when I was on an OPT for 9 months and 3 months on H1B?
Also,
8 Months of the OPT was in Cincinnati and 1 Month in Chicago.
3 Months of the H1B was in Chicago.
Can I use Turbo Tax to file my taxes or should I go to an accountant?
I got 2 w2 forms from my employer. 1 for the time I worked in Cincinnati and 1 for Chicago. I am not sure if they are 2 different w2 forms or just 1, because on 1 of the w2 forms it says "1 of 2 w2 form" and on the other it says "2 of 2 w2 form".
I am pretty confused, so if anyone was in a similar situation can please let me know what they did, that would be great.

There is no difference in filing taxes when you were on OPT vs H1B (by this I mean there are no different forms). When you were on OPT, Social Security and Medicare should not have been with held from your paycheck. If it was, then you need to ask for refund of those taxes from the employer who with held that tax. As far as Cincinnati and Chicago are concerned, nothing special to do for Federal Income tax. However, for state income tax, you will have to file income tax for both Ohio and Illinois as part year resident.
Having said the above, it is your choice to go to a tax consultant or do it on your own or to use Turbo Tax. If you want 100% peace of mind, go to a good accountant. If you want to save money and you think you can handle things on your own, go through all the instructions on all the forms and file it on your own. If you want a little bit of both - you can use Turbo Tax or any other tax software to file your taxes. If you are single, don't own a home and you think yours is a straight forward case (no deductions for work related expenses, medical bills, etc) - you should pretty much be able to do it on your own.
All my initial filings were 1040 NR EZ and so I really did not need any help. In 2005, I got my tax done through IBSN (really horrible experience and I don't think I will ever go to them again) and have used that as template for next year (not much change in my details other that annual increase in salary). Nowadays I use Tax Act standard (standard version is free and also does a free eFile). I don't know if it is mandatory rule but it definitely is a strong message from US Embassy in Canada. I registered for my trip to visit Canada in Oct 2006, but eventually backed out after reading this message. I don't know if the same message is still being shown or not.

This is just an opinion and things can be different from case to case.......so please do not take this as legal advice.
As long as one's employment is legal and you are following all the rules regarding employment i.e. in case of an RFE you will be satisfying the rules of AC 21(same or similar job+ salary requirements:even though filing it is not mandatory and should not affect AP travel) you "should(not necessarily would)" be fine.

No one can predict that how a particular POE will respond so their is no silver bullet answer. All one can say is that if your employment is legal under the current immigration laws then you should be fine....

If your wife's I-94, which she have received at the time of entering to USA on dependent visa was valid till the date of the starting new the job, she should be fine even if she has not started working on H1 after approval. She has maintained the H4 status during that period as per I-94.
My wife here on H4 and she go H1 but she started job after a while as employer delayed. But her status was valid. Even she told the same to the US counselor New Delhi and she got h1 stamping done. Gap of H1 approval effective date and employment was about 2 months.

I was looking at the SOC code for System Analyst and that's what it says.Also the code it shows is 15-1051 where as the labor shows 030-167014 - Not sure if these codes changed over the period of time.

Analyze user requirements, procedures, and problems to automate or improve existing systems and review computer system capabilities, workflow, and scheduling limitations. May analyze or recommend commercially available software. Exclude persons working primarily as "Engineers" (17-2011 through 17-2199), "Mathematicians" (15-2021), or "Scientists" (19-1011 through 19-3099). May supervise computer programmers.
If I were you, I would look for opportunities that fall in line with your GC labor. System Analyst and Project Manager don't really go well together, leave alone the SOC codes. Your PD also seems to be quite close (relatively speaking).
If anything try to negotiate your external title with your prospective employer.

I used to work to a client in Phx, got an interview request @ a financial firm in New york cleared it and vendor started processin' my H1 transfer. For the interview or for rellocation i wasn't paid anything. But before the start date bcoz of my credit report client rejected my offer.
But the vendor nuthin' in writing was the one who asked me to resign and bcoz of him was on bench for almost 2 1/2 months, now they say somewhere in the contract which says i have to repay all the expenses they spend on me which was close to $5000.
They sent an email sayin' i haven't provided the services to them from the start date indicated on the contract so have to repay them. Will i have to repay them jst bcoz i signed tht piece of the contract but i was rejected by the client, they said they won't try for new jobs i have to search myself as well they haven't paid me anything since they got my H1.
Do i stand any chance if i contact DOL or a lawyer not payin' them.
Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.

We should note that this bill was introduced in mid march and we didn't have any clue (including IV) sometimes chances of such bills may be easier to pass if the bill author chooses to include the provisions into another bill. Sometimes it better to stay low and get the provisions passed..;) ..... Overall i feel the provisions of this bill may get included into another one like 6039 or so

I am changing my employer and wanted to retain the services of legal firm representing current employer. Upon asking that I want to retain their services after I leave current employer, I have been told to pay upfront retainer fee of $2500.

It all depends on how you look at it. Under the h1b program anyone is a indentured slave, just not indian software engineers. There are good consulting companies and do pay well.

While Desi consulting companies seem to stretch rules and have their own ways of handling business, they are also a part of the system. They act like a feeder to system, acting as buffer between layoffs and also specialize in immigration and can be really flexible at times and also give you a share of the billing rates which is not possible in a permanant job where there is career stagnation and lack of mobility.

Your PD does not have to be current (it changes from month to month), if it was current at some time in the past, that will be enough.

I have a quick question. Many of our PD were current in July 2007. If our names are stuck in FBI name check for 2 yrs, can we file for WoM? Please advise. Many of us are under the impression that the our PD dates have to be current at the time of WoM and our namecheck should be stuck at FBI atleast for 1 year during which the PD date is current. In other words, the PD date should be current over a period of 12 months at the time of filing WoM.
Q 2. Is there any limit countrywise, for issuing GC?
